The band finally hit the competition trail on Sunday, July 10th at the 2011 Colorado Irish Festival. We have been working hard the past couple of months, and it certainly paid off.
The band took 1st place in the Time Limit Medley, and 2nd place in the Quick March Medley. We split the events with the Fort Collins Pipe Band who always plays well and sets the bar high for us.
The weather was very interesting. The wide, sudden temperature changes made tuning a challenge for all the bands and the bands dodged high winds, heavy rain and some very close lightening. All of the bands had to seek shelter and hold down their tents in between sets.
Piper Justin Moore and Side Drummer Sam Mangiamele both played in their first band competition ever. The challenging conditions and last minute changes to personnel made this an especially impressive accomplishment. We are proud to have people in the band that step up to face the challenges that are presented to them.
Overall we had a good time, got to see some familiar faces, and met a few new friends. We are taking a deserved week off, then we will be back at it to prepare for the Colorado Scottish Festival and Rocky Mountain Highland Games in Littleton, Colorado the weekend of August 14th.
